Chapter #10: The Product Pitch Project

Objective: To source a wholesale product online, brand it and pitch the business model to investors.

Directions: Visit www.alibaba.com and search for a product that you will be able to sell in the Canada. Assume that you will have an online store to display your product for sale. After you have sourced your product, create a logo on www.canva.com for your brand. Then create a 10 slide PowerPoint on your product, using the below guidelines.

Slide #1:   

  • Name of your Brand
  • Picture of your Product
  • Logo
  • Website Name (check www.godaddy.com to see if it is available; do not pick one that is already in use)

 Slide #2:          

  • Product Cost and Retail Price
  • Profit Margin

Slide #3:          

  • Financial Forecast (how many units will you in your first year?)
  • Cost and Profit Potential

Slide #4:          

  • Who is your target market? (age, gender, race, education, behavior etc.)

Slide #5:          

  • What types of advertisements will you use (provide specific examples)

Slide #6:          

  • Who is your competition?
  • How will you beat your competition?
  • What value do you bring to your customers?

Slide #7:          

  • What investment do you require? (how much money do you need to place the wholesale order?)

Slide #8:          

  • Why should we invest in your venture? (talk about the profit margin, forecast sales, value to customers)

Slide #9:          

  • What online platform will you use?
  • How much does it cost per month (check out shopify.com to see their rates)

Slide #10:        

  • How easy is it to start up a new business? After completing this project do you feel that you have what it takes to be an entrepreneur? What is holding you back? (use this slide to reflect on your project)
Take your time, you'll have a few days to work on this.  You may work in pairs.
